Your Part in Controlling CSOs

As a private property owner you are responsible for the repair and maintenance of the portion of storm and sanitary sewer systems that are on your property (except where there is an easement for a publicly owned system). Many private property owners may not know how their systems operate and may not be aware that they are contributing to the combined sewer overflow problem. The “Cooperative Approach to CSO Reduction Program” has been developed to help private property owners:

Supporting Program Authority
In recognition of the need to have all sources of stormwater removed from the sanitary sewer system, an Ordinance was passed by the City Council in December of 1999. The Ordinance provides funding authority for the development of a program to assist private property owners in completing stormwater separation projects and establishes a new fee schedule for properties not separated. The fees will be used for the design and construction of new pump stations, storage facilities and increased system capacity necessary to collect, convey and treat the extra water in the sanitary sewer system.
